  "The hazards associated with hot works, including eye damage and burns, contact with cutting wheels, cutting wheels or discs bursting, entanglement and noise are exacerbated by confined spaces. For these reasons, hot works in a confined space can only be carried out under the client's permit to work system and particular care should be taken to follow safe working systems. The client's specific permit to work should be obtained before oxy-gas equipment is taken into a confined space and no oxy-gas equipment should ever be left in confined spaces when not in use. At least standard personal protective equipment, or PPE, with gauntlets and Proban fire-retardant overalls should be worn during welding operations and additional PPE may be necessary. During grinding and cutting operations, at least standard PPE with Kevlar gloves and a visor should be worn and additional PPE, including dust masks, disposable respirators or air fed hoods may be necessary. Make sure your overall sleeves are buttoned, that you do not wear a tie or jewellery and that you tie back long hair and long beards. Fire extinguishers should be kept close at hand. And careful consideration should be given to the positioning of work platforms and personnel within the limited space available to take account of factors such as the direction grinding machines will move should snagging occur."
